21 days North Face K2 Expedition tour 2011

K2 is the second highest mountain on Earth after Mountain Everest. With a peak elevation of 8611 meters, K2 is part of the Karakoram Montain Range, and is located on the border between the Tashkorgan Tajik Autonomous County of Xinjiang, China, and Gilgit, in Gilgit-Baltistan of Pakistan.The route of approach to the base camp is long and there are many many rivers to cross. The months from April to May and at the end of August to October are best time for trekking to its base camp or Gasherburm base camp. Our itinerary starts/ends at pearl of the Chinese Silk Road in Kashgar and you may arrive to take international flight to Beijing or Shanghai then connect flight to Urumqi then to Kashgar OR, you could arrive Kashgar via Khunjerab border between China-Pakistan OR Erkashtam and Tourgart passes via China-Kyrgyzstan border.

Tour length would be 21 days and summary of the K2 trek is as follows:

Day 01: Kashgar Arrive at Kashgar airport, met by guide and driver, transfer to hotel for overnight.
Day 02: Kashgar—Karghilik (Yecheng in Chinese)
Breakfast at hotel then do rest of shopping in the morning for trek, drive to Karghilik-

via Yarkand, check into K2 hotel for overnight.
Day 03: Yecheng—Mazar—Elik
Drive along the Xinjiang—Tibet highway, we slowly up to 3300m from 1380m, after driving 2.5 hours from Zero Point (starting point of Xinjiang—Tibet highway), arrive at Kudi for lunch and border formalities, then slowly drive up to Sarek Dawan pass 5060m, further drive to Elik village via Mazar, camping around Raskam river and acclimatization.
Day 04: Elik—Kara-Yar After breakfast, pack our luggages on camels and start trekking with camel caravans to Karayar which takes around 5-6 hours. Camping in the tent.
Day 05: Kara-yar—Chongkur Otak Today we will trek total 6 hours. After an hour trek, there is a wooden bridge made by local Kyrgyz people, and it’s very convenient to cross the river, after trekking about 30 minutes on the small mountain cliff, some part of the slope is just less than 60cms wide and right 90° deep, trekkers have to be careful here, arrive at Chongkur Otak. Overnight in tent. |

Day 06: Chongkur Otak—Kerchin
After 2 hours trek, get the top of Aghil pass which is 4500m above the see level and we will have a good view of ice capped mountains all around, then trek another 3 hours down from pass to river joint, there are two ways, if we turn left, it goes to Gashbrum peak base camp via Durbun jungle, but we take the road to right for K2, trekking along the river bed to arrive Kerchin. Camping in the tent. |
Day 07: Kerchin—Kuruk-Jan’gal We trek almost 7 hours to Kuruk Jan’gal today, we have to ride the camel to cross endless rivers and small streams if there are more waters in the river. |
Day 08: Kuruk-Jan’gal—K2 BC We finally arrive K2 BC after trekking marvelous mountain valleys and rivers, if weather permits, we will have a chance to see peak of K2. Base camp is large in territory and this is the place where trekkers and climbers have a ideal logistics. |

Day 09-11: K2 Base Camp
Trekking around BC or resting and taking photos its surrounding area.
Day 12-16: Trekking back to Ilik With same way back to Ilik and stay one night in with Kyrgyz family in order to have deep understanding of local peoples life. |
Day 17: Ilik
One day rest and packing at Elik.
Day 18: Elik - Yarkand
Drive back to Yarkant. Overnight at Queen Hotel.

Day 19: Kashgar
Visit to Royal cemetery of Yarkand Sa’ed Kingdom and Amannisa khan tomb, wandering around Yarkand local Bazaar, then drive back to Kashgar in the afternoon.

Day 20: Kashgar
Full day visit to Sunday Market and its livestock section, Apak khoja Mausolem, Eidkah Mosque and its handcraft section, old towns and small lanes of Kashgar. Farewell dinner tonight. |
Day 21: Kashgar depart
Drive to airport to take morning flight to Urumqi then connect flight to Beijing or other destinations. |
